Alliance of Ontario Food Processors
Food Safety Tools

The Alliance of Ontario Food Processors has compiled a series of food safety tools to assist food processors in the area of food safety. The resources listed here are intended to assist with the development and implementation of food safety programs, good manufacturing practices training and the HACCP Advantage Program.

Fact Sheets

The Alliance, in conjunction with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, has developed a series of Food Safety Fact Sheets for the food and beverage processing industry. The Fact Sheets provide information to assist food processors in the implementation of food safety programs and include:

The Alliance also hosts workshops on food safety protocols related to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Product Recalls. The Alliance has materials available to assist food processors with the implementation of GMPs and Recall Programs.

Food Handler Training

Regulations alone do not make our food safe, people do. We need to educate all employees to identify potential food safety hazards.

The Food Handler Training course, an independent study program which can be completed at home, will give your employees the tools they need to exceed current - and future - food handling regulations. This program will empower your staff with the skills they need to play a leading role in implementing food safety practices.

Who should register? Anyone handling food!

GMP Training Kit

Take advantage of a tool to train your employees in the area of good manufacturing practices (GMP). The kit is designed to provide on-site, flexible and custom training specific to your plant and employees in the area of GMP. Please contact OMAFRA to get your current copy.

HACCPAdvantage

The HACCP Advantage has been developed as part of the initiative underway by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) to develop a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) approach and HACCP recognition framework for non-federally registered food processors. The program has been designed to be practical and feasible for all facilities, regardless of its size, commodity produced, or volume processed.

HACCP is a science based internationally accepted food safety system focused on hazard identification and prevention. It can be applied to all sectors in the food safety chain.

The Benefits of HACCP include:

  • improved food safety
  • potentially increased market access
  • increased business liability protection
  • a recognized driver for continuous improvement
  • enhanced process control

For more information on HACCP Advantage please see the OMAFRA site, contact OMAFRA's toll free HACCP line at 1-888-466-2372 or email to HACCP@omafra.gov.on.ca.
